Musica, cartapesta e arte/ “Curzio Malaparte” di Sabine Witt

For decades, journalist Sabine Witt has covered the works of the Italian writer, journalist and screenwriter Curzio Malaparte, who died in 1957. A controversial intellectual, supporter of fascism first, and opponent later, he spanned half of the “short century”, leaving a profound mark with works such as “Kaputt” and “La pelle”, which brought him international fame. The 2008 book “Curzio Malaparte. La narrazione autobiografica tra realtà e finzione" (Peter Lang Pub) written by Witt, hosted by the Chiesa della Nova, is the afternoon appointment of the programme of "Musica, cartapesta e arte", a cycle of events that embellish the building's rococo curated for years by the Lecce section of Italia Nostra. Alongside the cultural and musical events, the building hosts a permanent papier-mâché exhibition. Following in the footsteps of the masters of the past, those of today continue to knead and model the typical characters of the Salento nativity scene, moving nativities and small groups of statues that embellish the interior of the ellipsoid dedicated to a sacred place throughout the festivities.
The exhibition can be visited from 25 to 30 December and from 5 to 6 January, from 10 a.m. to midday and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Free admission.
