Venus and Adonis/ Roberto Latini

It is a story of mortal wounds, defeated kisses that cannot, cannot become armour, defence. 'Venus and Adonis', in William Shakespeare's version of a narrative poem, told of earthly love and divine love in the disarmament of an inescapable destiny. This is the starting point for the performance by and with Roberto Latini staged for Ama (Accademia mediterranea dell'attore) in the cloister of the Teatini. Latini, actor, author, director and Ama lecturer, dwells precisely on inevitability, on myth and the Gods to whom sometimes, even to them, there is nothing left but to surrender to change, to be surprised. "Even Love can do nothing. Even Love is incapable; he is exhausted, he is worn out, he is old. Defeated. Yet, falling, he makes an infinite flight." Adonis dies, disappears into the fresh morning air. From his blood will be born a red and white flower. Here, the myth of rebirth.
