Theatre of Places/ Prometheus

'The past is a foreign country. There, everything unfolds differently', writes Leslie Poles Hartley in her 1953 masterpiece 'The Uncertain Age'. This is the subtitle chosen by Koreja for the international festival 'Theatre of Places', a journey into the polis from myth to memory, from ritual to community. Gabriele Vacis, founder of the celebrated workshop Teatro Settimo, brings to the stage with the young actors of the company Potenziali Evocati Multimediali "Prometheus", the tragedy by Aeschylus. A prologue from Hesiod recounts the beginning of everything. Prometheus belongs to the generation of titans, who give life to the gods. When the new generation challenges the old, Prometheus sides with the young who, partly because of him, get the better of the titans. Zeus entrusts him with the task of creating man, but soon realises that men are too much like the gods themselves and intends to wipe them out. Prometheus steals fire, or technological and scientific knowledge, from Zeus and gives it to men. Zeus punishes Prometheus, sending him to the ends of the world and having him chained to a cliff, where every morning an eagle flies to devour his liver, which every night punctually grows back. The set design is by Roberto Tarasco.
