Gilgamesh/ The epic of the man who saw everything

Gilgamesh/ The epic of the man who saw everything

Emerging from the darkness of time and from the excavations of the library of Ashurbanipal in Nineveh, some two centuries ago, was the series of tablets that, once deciphered, revealed the title of what was later defined as the oldest poem in the world: 'Of him who saw the depths and foundations of the earth'. Hence the story of Gilgamesh, which arrives on the stage of the Apollo Theatre for the municipal theatre season and tells of a young man who, distraught with grief at the loss of his best friend, leaves his throne and sets out in search of the secret of eternal life. Gilgamesh's journey to the ends of the world, where he will meet the sage Utnapishtim and his wife, the only survivors of the universal flood, will prove to be futile and unsuccessful: man's destiny is to be mortal, but his view and understanding of the world and life have changed. Bringing the myth of this anti-hero to the stage, with texts and direction by Giovanni Calcagno, is the Ert Theatre with Luigi Lo Cascio, Vincenzo Pirrotta and Giovanni Calcagno.
