The Sport and Health SpA Road Show makes a stop in Lecce, and for the occasion Piazza Mazzini becomes a real Sports Village where adults and children can watch sports demonstrations and try many different disciplines for free. In addition, they can meet Italian sports legends, such as volleyball player Valerio Vermiglio, a silver medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, a gold medalist at the European Championships, and a gold and silver in the World League.

Sport and Health's traveling project started in Turin and is touching several Italian cities with the aim of spreading the values of sport and physical activity for the well-being of citizens, and enhancing the territory.

Sport and Health, an in-house public company of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, whose goal is to promote grassroots sports, also managing European funds for all activities related to it, through the road show wants to bring people of all age groups closer to a more active and healthy lifestyle, based on a healthy diet and the practice of physical activity, while enhancing the value of associations, clubs and sports collaborators in the area.

The Sports Village is open to everyone free of charge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with no need for reservations. Kicking off the activities is the mayor of Lecce, Carlo Salvemini, along with Sports Councillor Paolo Foresio and Sport and Health executives, who from 10:30 a.m. meet with representatives of local sports organizations.

Scheduled activities between morning and afternoon include soccer, fencing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, track and field, rugby, basketball, archery, sports dance, cycling, tennis, sport fishing, volleyball, checkers, chess, weightlifting and kickboxing, in addition to activities proposed by sports promotion bodies. Also present were two stations with service federations, namely Sports Doctors and Timekeepers. 

The Lecce stage is among the events organized on the occasion of European Sports Week scheduled from Sept. 1 to Oct. 15, with focus from Sept. 23 to Sept. 30, 2022 through the #BeActive campaign
