WEEK OF MEMORY / Meeting with Attilio Lattes, witness of the Holocaust

At 5.15 am on October 16, 1943, the SS poured into the streets of the Portico d'Ottavia in Rome and rounded up 1,024 people, including 200 children. Two days later, 18 wagons left Tiburtina station for the Auschwitz concentration camp. Attilio Lattes and his family escaped that roundup by taking refuge in the sewers. Lattes' memories, experiences and scars of fear have become "The hidden child in Rome", a book edited by Donato Maglio (Congedo Editore), presented with the author in the spaces of the Jewish Museum on the occasion of the "Week of Remembrance ". Introduced by: Fabrizio Lelli, director of the museum and professor of Hebrew language and literature at the University of Salento.
