Tempora Contempora#3/ La discoteca (The Disco)

The screening of the film "La discoteca" and the talk with the director Jacopo Miliani, presented by Don't dream alone by Marco Petroni, is the new appointment in the programme of the third edition of "Tempora Contempora", the international focus on body language in the performing arts conceived and organised by Accademia Mediterranea dell'Attore, Polo Bibliomuseale di Lecce, Museo Sigismondo Castromediano, in partnership with Regione Puglia, Ministero della Cultura, Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati, Institut Française di Roma, Eu Japan Fest and Lecceinscena, under the artistic direction of Franco Ungaro.

Set at Kontiki in Vigarano Mainarda, a historic venue in the Ferrara area, the cradle of dance halls and big discos in the 1980s and 1990s, the film tells the story of a dystopian future in which an unidentified authority forbids dancing and the free flow of emotions. A grotesque retro-future in which a digital application selects human beings for a night out at the discotheque, a place deputed to consummate a ritual aimed at the controlled reproduction of the species, until two anti-heroes bring about a surprising transformation. The established visual artist Miliani, who has also collaborated with Jacopo Jenna, Antonio Torres, divaD, Benjamin Milan, Mathieu LaDurée, Eve Stainton and Dario Argento, among others, uses performance to investigate the connections between language and the body, offering the spectator an open narrative on the construction of identity, the sphere of sexuality, queerness, gender fluidity, and the relationship between personal choices and society, combining different languages between cinema, art, performance, video and dance.
