St. Oronzo 2023/ St. Lucy's Fair

Shepherds and nativity, huts and baby dolls. Christmas is not just around the corner, but the historic Santa Lucia Fair or, as the people of Lecce call it, "dei pupi" exceptionally fills Trinchese Street with art and color for an August version on the feast of patron saints. The traditional Christmas display, an unmissable event for crib enthusiasts, collectors and connoisseurs, offers an opportunity to learn about the ancient art of papier-mâché and the craftsmanship that distinguishes local artisans. The stalls are thus lined up along the stretch of road that runs alongside the Apollo Theater unraveling a people of small "puppets" made up of angels and shepherds but also bakers, fishermen, washerwomen, carpenters, blacksmiths all handcrafted and finished with meticulous detail.

The fair is open from Aug. 24 to 26 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to midnight.
