St. Oronzo 2023/ Paper mache exhibition

A "gentle" and delicate rococo, like the whim or caprice of a refined lady, characterizes the Nova church that in these days of the patronal feast the section of Italia Nostra (which has been taking care of it for years on behalf of the curia) makes usable by embellishing it with an exhibition on Lecce papier-mâché and musical accompaniments by musicians also from Lecce schools. Inside the beautiful building a bit defiladed from the hustle and bustle of Via Palmieri (on Via Idomeneo) one can admire the altars with copies of Oronzo Tiso's paintings (missing those of St. Nicholas and St. Joseph with Child, stolen at night), the splendid ceiling oval with the sky clouds, cherubs and golden rays, and the legendary "Second Lamp of St. Oronzo" (the first is in the cathedral) that refers to the legend that it was from here where St. Oronzo, Justus and Fortunatus were imprisoned for 11 days that an inexplicable and divine light radiated every night.
The church is open from Aug. 24 to 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 10:30 p.m.
From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. musical entertainment with the Banzi Band.
Free admission.
