Paolo Emilio Stasi. Painter and archaeologist in Terra d'Otranto

The exhibition on the centenary of his death at the Castromediano Museum in Lecce pays tribute to Paolo Emilio Stasi Painter, archaeologist, enlightened thinker. Born in Spongano in 1840, his figure and role in the cultural panorama of the time were controversial and, even today, his admirable pictorial production is unknown to most people. The exhibition 'Paolo Emilio Stasi. Painter and archaeologist in the Terra d'Otranto between the 19th and 20th centuries', curated by Brizia Minerva, Annalucia Tempesta, Michele Afferri and Salvatore Bianco, therefore aims to re-establish his importance also by virtue of his multifaceted interests and studies. In fact, the exhibition itinerary winds its way through his works of art and archaeological finds, photographs, documents and other materials from private collections and from the museum's collections together with others from the heirs' collections (35 works including paintings on canvas, pressed cardboard, plywood and drawings on paper) that have just been restored by Mary Coppola and Giuseppe Tritto.
The exhibition can be visited every day, except Mondays, from 10 am to 8 pm.
