Briganti d’Italia/ Giulio Tatasciore

The mythical figure of the brigand is the subject of an essay by Giulio Tatasciore, a researcher at the University of Salerno, entitled 'Briganti d'Italia. Storia di un immaginario romantico' (Viella). It was precisely romantic taste that created the iconography of the Italian brigand, recognisable by his costume full of arabesques and his truncated cone hat, with a wide brim and adorned with feathers and ribbons, from which long hair sprouts. Ambiguous, exotic, fascinating, the bandit embodies virtues and vices, folklore and aberration, revolt and criminal depravity. In many ways, he sums up a certain idea of Italy. The author presents the book in the Bernardini Library cloister as part of the cycle of meetings "Risorgimento al Convitto. Stories, passions, memories and public uses of the Risorgimento in united Italy'.
