Veniamoci incontro a teatro/ Il giuocatore

Goldoni never indicated his intention to teach anything with his comedies, except in the case of 'Il giuocatore', which the Compagnia del Sole, directed by Marinella Anaclerio, brings to the stage of the Teatro Paisiello for 'Veniamoci incontro a teatro', the 2023-2024 season of the Municipality of Lecce and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese. The play, written in 1750, sheds light on gambling, a vertigo that is linked not only to the desire to accumulate money but also to a perverse way of life. Goldoni himself knew the gaming tables very well, as well as all the circles connected to them, and in 'Il giuocatore' he recounts a typical day, from dawn to dusk, of the young bourgeois Florindo, enslaved to the game and without goals. The world in which the protagonist is immersed emerges, with girlfriends, real and fake friends, servants and profiteers: everything lays bare the mental mechanisms of the pathological gambler, revealing the traps into which he falls. Finally, the comedy verges on tragedy, because Goldoni's mastery does not forego a smile, but always has a bitter and sometimes dramatic twist.

Tickets from 8 to 15 euros. It is possible to buy a suspended ticket that is donated to associations, family homes and social cooperatives for those who cannot afford to go to the theatre.
