Theatre of Places/ Virginia in the Mirror

Theatre of Places/ Virginia in the Mirror

A visionary, avant-garde work on the subject of gender fluidity, written in 1928, 'Orlando' by Virginia Woolf deals with sexuality and questions the masculine, the feminine and the condition of women in times that we might say were not suspicious. The book narrates the astonishing adventures of Orlando, a young courtier from the time of Elizabeth I, who over the course of almost four centuries finds himself living different lives, in various evocative historical eras. One day when he wakes up, he discovers that he has become a woman with all the limitations, conditioning and social conventions imposed on gender. The novel is an invitation to overcome differences. But "what happens to the author while writing Orlando? What happens in her during the creative impulse?". This question is the starting point for the performance "Virginia in the mirror" produced by Animalenta, which sees Angela Iurilli and Rossana Cannone, directed by Ilaria Cangialosi, on stage at Koreja's Ortale. The event is part of the "Teatro dei luoghi" programme.
