Theatre of Places/ To be or not to be

"To be or not to be" for once is not the famous line from William Shakespeare's Hamlet, but the new performance by Teatro Koreja, in collaboration with Babilonia Teatri, that the historic Lecce company is proposing as part of its "Teatro dei luoghi" programme. Ubu prize-winner Enrico Castellani and Valeria Raimondi talk about what it means to become boys and girls, questioning the cultural and social elements that oversee education in relation to gender. Two actresses, two actors and their bodies as playgrounds give life to images, actions and words, which chase each other, dress up, disguise themselves, and exchange places. On the one hand, the status quo is photographed, i.e. how the masculine and feminine are still separated in an absolutely dichotomous way. On the other, it shows how, by indulging each person's character, sensitivity and uniqueness, the dividing lines inevitably jump. How everyone has infinite possibilities before them, how no one is exhausted by the genre to which they belong.
