Theater of Places/ In Future Memory

There are places in the world where the pursuit of truth and justice is paid for with one's life. Such was the case for Anna Politkovskaya, the courageous Russian journalist killed in 2006 because she was unwilling to keep silent. For the "Country and Memory" section of Koreja's "Theatre of Places" review, Valentina Lodovini brings her to life at the cloister of the Rector's Office, giving voice and body to her ideas through the reading of some texts chosen by Lucia La Gatta. The words, alternating with music by three Russian composers whom the Stalinist regime censored on charges of "formalism," tell of a woman who never compromised, who saw no boundaries between private and professional life, as she often declared, "I live my life, and I write what I see."
