Teatro dei luoghi/ Simona, the gangster of art

The final show, and the crowning achievement of the international review "Teatro dei luoghi", is the national premiere of Jan Fabre's latest theatrical production, "Simona, the gangster of art", with Irene Urciuoli. Jan Fabre is one of the most important and controversial exponents of contemporary art. The author of research aimed at overcoming the expressive and moral barriers of his time, he presented his disturbing works at the Venice Art and Theatre Biennale starting in 1984. Since then, interest in his art and theatre has spread internationally. A visual artist, choreographer, playwright and director, Fabre makes theatre the medium for channelling his stream of consciousness within strictly defined devices: the architectural perception of the stage space, the acting and use of the actors' bodies, the attention to dramaturgical mechanisms. In such a context, the direction plays a decisive role. "Simona, the gangster of art" has as its protagonist a saint, on a mission to restore one of the fundamental duties of humanity: to fight for the intrinsic value of art, for the healing and spiritual power of beauty.
