Strade Maestre/ The widow's kiss

"Horovitz's biting dialogues, the grotesque and vibrant physical scores of the actors and the livid light and sound scans of the stage space accompany the spectator into that cone of shadow in which he dwells". With these words describes "The Widow's Kiss" director Teresa Ludovico, who brings to the stage for Teatro Kismet the unsettling text by American playwright Israel Horovitz. After a light beginning, the spectator is soon confronted with a crude story of violence against women. On a day of utter normality and boredom, factory workers Archie and George joke about their respective love conquests. Archie reveals to his friend that their old school friend Margy has returned from the city to care for her sick brother and has asked him to have dinner with her. The goliardic attitude of the two quickly changes with the sudden resurfacing of repressed memories, when Margy, an educated, worldly woman far removed from provincial life, enters the scene, breaking the apparent complicity between the two friends.
