Strade Maestre/ The Angel of History

In 75 minutes, from the Koreja stage for Strade Maestre, the Florentine company Sotterraneo recounts Walter Benjamin's last work. The Berlin philosopher writes of an angel, who flies with his gaze backwards, looking at the past, with his back to the future. The wreckage of buildings and ideologies is strewn before his eyes and the angel tries to stop and put the pieces back together, but a storm inflates his wings and pushes him inexorably forward. The storm is what we call progress. No matter how hard the angel tries to resist, he cannot stop and intervene, he cannot refound a shared reality, he cannot do anything at all to help humanity, if only because angels do not exist. What other living being could try to put back together what is broken and, flying or not, turn around and finally look forward?
