Strade Maestre/ Sequins

For Strade Maestre, Koreja stages "Lustrini", a poetic and moving text by Antonio Tarantino, a painter and playwright who died of covid in 2020. Luca Toracca (from Milan, founder of Teatro dell'Elfo) and the Salento-born Ivan Raganato, artistic director of the Scena Muta theatre company, take on the roles of Lustrini and Cavagna, two tramps grappling with a plan to rob a well-known surgeon. As in 'Waiting for Godot', the two wait for days for the opportunity to pull off that heist, not enough to change their lives but essential to guarantee food and lodging for some time. The kindness of spirit of Lustrini, cultured and sensitive, is contrasted by the roughness of Cavagna, crude and violent. Two people characteristically at polar opposites, and for this reason complementary, who for years have faced life on the streets together. Illuminated by moments of wit and sharp irony, "Lustrini" is the tragedy of the great social gap that exists today between increasingly richer people and increasingly poorer ones, as well as the rejection of the foreigner and the homosexual.
