Strade Maestre/ Self-Defamation

The Italian-German company Barletti/Waas is the protagonist of a three-day, four-show 'solo show' from 27 to 29. Lea Barletti from Salento and Werner Waas from Bavaria propose a discourse on the world, a discourse that creates a world. That between two people who discuss, between actors and spectators, between one actor and another actor, between text and action, between word and presence, between gesture and music and all the other possible combinations that make a live performance alive. "I am not what I have been. I have not been what I should have been. I have not become what I should have become. I have not kept what I should have kept." Peter Handke's text (recited in Italian and German with surtitles) is the self-deprecating and public gesture, through which in "Autodiffamazione" Barletti and Waas become witnesses to an awareness-raising, a sentimental education in speech. Through the gesture of self-deprecation, not so much an "us" as an "I-you", an "I-all" manifests itself. It is a game that suspends the boundary between spectators and actors, accepting common responsibility for a collective story.
