Strade Maestre/ Lea Melandri's map of the heart

In the mid-1980s, Lea Melandri, a journalist, essayist and activist of the women's movement and the non-authoritarian movement, ran a correspondence column entitled 'Inquietudini' in the weekly magazine 'Ragazza In' for three years. A selection of the articles collected in that column have been published in a volume, from which Fiorenza Menni and Andrea Mochi Sismondi of Ateliersi have taken "La mappa del cuore di Lea Melandri" (Lea Melandri's Map of the Heart), an important stage in the 27th edition of Koreja's theatre programme, Strade Maestre. Through those letters an emotional journey of confrontation between adolescent girls and boys unfolds, between generations that dialogue with each other through that column in an innovative format, a sort of ante litteram social network. Those themes, those questions, those desires belong to all young women and all young men grappling with the difficult challenges of growing up and understanding. And also to us adults, who are still grappling with the same universal questions.
