Strade Maestre/ A day of fire

More than twenty years after the first version, Beppe Rosso brings "Un giorno di fuoco" (A Day of Fire), a homage to Beppe Fenoglio on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, to the stage of Cantieri Teatrali Koreja. The story is the chronicle of a blood event that really happened in 1933, which Fenoglio himself witnessed indirectly as a child, during a summer stay in his beloved Langhe. The quiet everyday life of the small town of Gorzegno is suddenly shattered by the homicidal madness of Gallesio, a solitary, anti-system man. Overcome by family quarrels of an economic nature, he picks up a shotgun and kills first his brother, then his nephew, and finally the village parish priest. Barricaded in his house, he takes his own life, shooting himself in the mouth after a long and futile negotiation with the police. Directed by Gabriele Vacis, Rosso places the accent on the vocality of the words understood as a great musical score and lucidly interprets a powerful text, rendered in its entirety, that makes the spectator experience all the rawness of a community tragedy, without representing it.
