S/Calvino o della libertà/Mario Perrotta

Segregation, isolation, constraint, loneliness are the words that have deeply marked humanity since the Covid pandemic, which is still ongoing. Freedom thus takes on a new meaning in the contemporary world, where everyone would like to be free to do, to move, to self-determine, to embrace, to meet, to have their say on social networks, to express themselves without ifs and buts. In "S/Calvino o della libertà", a performance by and with Mario Perrotta, a Permàr, Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT/Teatro Nazionale production, staged at the Paisiello Theatre for the Lecce Municipality's theatre season, this dimension is investigated, a profound and ancestral desire that, however, clashes with the freedom of the other. The Salento actor, director and author retraces the work of Italo Calvino to draw from it an original composition that is able to give substance to those questions that have always accompanied man. But it is also "a very personal homage to an author who was able to shape, and strongly, my vision of things in the world," he says. On stage, Perrotta brings a reflection on that delicate and fundamental passage in which "my" freedom becomes "our" freedom, elaborating a new shared meaning that repositions, all of us, side by side and no longer one in front of the other or, even worse, one against the other.
