For Unica Fuoribordo, the second season of theatre, music, dance, exhibitions, workshops, and meetings organised by Nasca il Teatro under the artistic direction of Ippolito Chiarello, "Oliver Twist", written, directed, and performed by Angela De Gaetano, goes on stage. Freely inspired by Charles Dickens' masterpiece, the Salento actress and playwright imagines Oliver as an adult who has survived the terrible vicissitudes of childhood. Every year on the same day, he returns to the old village church, where everything is always the same, and stays there for an hour by the altar. There he tells his story, each time a year older, but with an ever stronger desire to embrace his mother Agnes, to speak to the woman who died giving birth to him. Oliver retraces his life, characterised by suffering and traumatic events, but also full of hope for the future. It is an impossible dialogue between opposites, between a living and a dead woman, in an endless chase between life and death. The play won second place at the third edition of the Dostoevsky International Prize.
