Man and gentleman

There are those who get by and those who can afford to play with other people's lives. That's how it's been since time immemorial. And it is like that in 'Ho fatto il Guaio? Riparerò!’ (Did I mess up? I'll fix it!), a 1922 comedy by Eduardo De Filippo that later became famous with the title 'Man and a Gentleman'. The story, brought to the stage by Geppy Gleijeses, a pupil of Eduardo himself, together with Lorenzo Glejeses, a pupil of Eugenio Barba, along with a cast of 9 other actors, including the 2018 David di Donatello winner Ernesto Mahieux, has at its centre a shabby theatre company in the pay of a wealthy and unreliable young man. The company is hired for a series of performances at a bathing establishment and, amidst unexpected pregnancies, lovers, simulated craziness to avoid trouble and jail time, unrolls acts of wholesome fun.
