European Film Festival/ Death and Rebirth of Carmelo Bene

The collateral section of the European Film Festival, which offers concerts, recitals, book presentations and DJ sets in other venues in Lecce, crosses over into music and theatre. The Carmelo Bene hall at the Convitto Palmieri welcomes the recital "Morte e rinascita di Carmelo" (Death and Rebirth of Carmelo) by director and screenwriter Cosimo Damiano Damato and musician Erica Mou. A show that recounts the genius of Carmelo Bene drawing on the pages of "Ho sognato di vivere" (Bompiani), which collects the youthful poems of the actor, director, playwright and writer of Salento origins. Added to these is Damato's vision that rewrites, in a dark key, an unauthorised autobiography of the maestro. Carmelo (Cosimo Damiano Damato) has been dead for twenty years, since then he has been wandering in limbo in a field of olive trees inhabited by pinocchios. In a blinding sunburst he meets a woman. She is Death (Erica Mou). She is wearing a wedding dress with a long black organza veil. The result is a dialogue about art, life, love, eternity and death, a dreamlike, visionary, orphic encounter.
Free entrance with compulsory booking while places last.
