Canticle of Songs for mother tongue

"Every year, over 20 mother tongues disappear in the world, one every two weeks", says Fabio Tolledi, playwright and director of Astràgali, "at this rate in the space of a century half of the 5 thousand languages spoken on earth today will be extinct". The “Canticle of Songs for mother tongue” was born from this premise, a show that has its roots in a text attributed to King Solomon and is “renewed” in a “neo-Salento” mother tongue. Absolute song of love and knowledge, the Canticle, in Hebrew "Shir hashrim" and in Latin "Canticum canticorum", in the version of Astràgali tells of love, death, desire, illusion, loss, finding its own in Salento regenerative force. On stage the actresses Roberta Quarta and Simonetta Rotundo accompanied by music performed by the Montesardo Ensemble.
The show is part of the “Theaters in the South” project.
