Break In Theatre/ Heroides. Letters of mythical heroines from antiquity to the present

A host of heroines of classical myth give voice to the drama of abandonment, writing letters to distant lovers. Ovid shifts the lament of the traditional elegy from the realm of autobiography to that of legend. A prototype of the modern epistolary novel, 'Heroides' represents the culmination of Latin poetry, but also a moment of profound rupture, marking the beginning of a new literary and human sensibility. This original encounter of convention and invention intrigued Ubu prize-winner Elena Bucci, who dramaturgically elaborated Ovid's text, also signing the direction of Koreja's musical performance. Phyllis, Enon, Ariadne, Phaedra and Medea are women in love, abandoned or betrayed, in some moments full of despair, anger and sadness, in others full of desire, passion and sweetness. Taking up their voices, they become witnesses to the fragility of so many and ironically transform pain to the point of smiling, making it life and nourishment for a new vision.
