Wonderland, the Musical

The Compagnia del Musical C'era una volta presents "Wonderland, il musical", a rewriting by Dalila Arnesano, with unpublished text and music, of the 1865 fairy tale by Lewis Carroll. The show, lasting about two hours, opens with Alice about to recite a poem in public at the behest of her strict Aunt Ruby, as usual intent on quarrelling with her sister, sweet Aunt Evelyn. It is the white rabbit with waistcoat and watch that provides the protagonist (Carola Melito) with an escape route, taking her back to the magical world of Wonderland, populated by the strange anthropomorphic creatures created by Carroll's talent. It is the refusal to grow up according to the rules and times of adults, according to social conditioning. It is the painful passage for everyone through their emotions, it is the perilous struggle to choose and conquer their future. And yet growing up does not necessarily mean losing one's imagination, becoming an adult by no means entails giving up imagination to embrace rationality and rigour, which rhymes with greyness. "It's late, it's late!", but maybe not.
