Viri Cantores de Finibus Terrae/ Ave Oronti

Viri Cantores de Finibus Terrae/ Ave Oronti

In the rich program of the festivities for the patron saints Oronzo, Giusto and Fortunato, the concert meditation "Ave Oronti" by the Viri Cantores de Finibus Terrae takes on special significance. Directed by maestro Giuseppe Lattante, the choir celebrates the evening of the vigil by performing some of the most significant Gregorian chants in "alternatim" with the organ by maestro Antonio Rizzato, a professor at the Conservatorio Tito Schipa in Lecce and one of Italy's most appreciated organists. "Alternatim" is a term employed in medieval music and until the Second Vatican Council to designate the alternation of voice and organ in the singing of almost all Mass texts. Verses were alternately entrusted to the choir, which sang them in Gregorian chant, and the organ, which effectively substituted itself for the read text. Lead vocalist for the "Ave Oronti" concert is Maria Grazia Nicchiarico, a specialist in Gregorian chant and sacred music. In addition to the Viri Cantores group, the evening is organized by the Salicus Association, the Metropolitan Archdiocese and the cathedral parish Maria Ss. Assunta in Lecce.
