The Conservatory Concerts/ Cairo Express

East and West dialogue in music, in the concert "Cairo Express" featuring on the Teatini stage Palestinian Nabil Bey Salameh, leader of Radiodervish (voice, guitar, live electronics, frame drums) and Apulian Fabrizio Piepoli (voice, oud, Turkish saz, piano, moorchang). The concert, one of the appointments organised by the Conservatorio 'Tito Schipa' in collaboration with the municipality, traverses the popular music of Southern Italy and that of the Maghreb and the Middle East. Modal and microtonal melodies are grafted with new urban musical trends, instruments from the past, electronic beats. It is a kind of new geography, where countries and continents tell of millenary histories and languages capable of overcoming, through music, barriers and prejudices, remnants of colonialist legacies and 'orientalist' stereotypes. The two artists are accompanied by some students of the three-year degree course in traditional music with an ethnomusicological focus.
