Stagione Lirica 2023/ Madama Butterfly

Traveling on the notes of Giacomo Puccini, continues the 48th Opera Season, which focuses on the female figure. The Province of Lecce offers three evenings dedicated to “Madama Butterfly”, to a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. Marco Voleri signs the staging, while the actors are directed by Pietro Rizzo, with international experience at the Metropolitan in New York, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. Cio Cio San, who after her father's suicide was forced to become a geisha, is impersonated by soprano Donata D'Annunzio Lombardi, in the performances of the 1st and 3rd, and by Susanna Branchini on the evening of the 2nd. Raffaele Abete is the American officer Pinkerton who seduces and abandons the protagonist, while Giuseppe Altomare is the consul Sharpless, and Annunziata Vestri the faithful servant Suzuki. The performances are supported by the “Fondo nazionale spettacolo dal vivo” of the Ministry of Culture and the Region of Puglia, in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, Teatro Pubblico Pugliese and the Lecce Chamber of Commerce.
