Stagione Lirica 2023/ Carmen

The 48th Opera Season of the Province of Lecce closes on Georges Bizet's eternal masterpiece, “Carmen”, in honour of one of the world's most famous female figures. The marvellous gypsy, on the stage of the Teatro Politeama Greco in a double bill, is the mezzo-soprano Annunziata Vestri, who is contrasted by the figure of Micaela, impersonated by Angela Nisi; along with them onstage there is the tenor Dario Di Vietri in the role of Sergeant Don José. Conducting the orchestra is an exceptional guest, the current artistic director of the Teatro Bellini in Catania, Fabrizio Maria Carminati. The staging of the show is by Giandomenico Vaccari, and moves from the 2019 set design by Pier Paolo Bisieri, with multimedia image creator Leandro Summo in a sort of multimedia laboratory on stage, which returns to the stage a representation of the relationships and conflicts between women and men, that too often darken the contemporary news stories.
