Salento Organ Festival

With the autumn stages of its ninth edition, the Salento Organ Festival organised by the J. S. Bach Institute of Musical Culture in Tricase begins again. In October, absolute masterpieces of Baroque music, the famous Concertos for organ and string orchestra by Georg Friedrich Händel, will be performed. The ensemble 'Le armoniche stravaganze', founded and directed by maestro Francesco Scarcella, performs the Concerto for organ and orchestra in F Major No. 13 'The Cuckoo and the Nightingale' at the opening. First played by Händel himself at the Kings Theatre in London on 2 April 1739, No. 13 is an allegro concerto in the Italian style, which takes its name from the charming play in which the organ imitates the call of the cuckoo and the lyrical song of the nightingale, first solo and then in duet. This is followed by the Concerto in G min. op. 4 no. 1, the Concerto in G min. op. 7 no. 5 and the Concerto in B b major op. 7 no. 6. At the Pinchi organ (from 1982), maestros Leonardo Antonio Di Chiara and Sergio De Blasi take turns.
