JAF/Solo Piano!

The sixth edition of JAF, the Jazz Around Festival directed by Maurizio Petrelli, is dedicated to the female artistic universe. JAF promotes the culture of jazz music, both Italian and world-wide, and brings original projects contaminated by different genres to the Teatini in Lecce. This year, the three evenings will feature female headliners from the international scene and young talents to be promoted in a context that is also intended to be an opportunity for in-depth discussion on the issues of equal opportunities in the world of music and culture, both Apulian and Italian. The opening of all evenings of JAF, realised with the artistic collaboration of Alfamusic, Conservatorio Tito Schipa di Lecce and Gianluca Di Furia Production, is entrusted precisely to the young people of the Conservatorio Tito Schipa di Lecce.

The last event is introduced at 9 p.m. by Conservatory students Carlo Rotelli and Daniele Russo (guitar), Mattia Marchiello (double bass).

At 9.30 p.m., Jany Mcpherson will present her latest recording "Solo Piano!", an album of original pieces, and offer a short homage to Italian cinema. A pianist with great technique, original in her phrasing and improvised language, McPherson has the innate rhythmic sense of her native Cuba, the overwhelming harmonic and melodic progressions of her music, the touching interpretative intensity of her ballads. She is a stage performer, a drag queen and an inspired composer.

At 10.30 p.m., the festival's artistic director himself, Salento crooner Maurizio Petrelli, will take the stage at the Teatini. Together with his band, he will close the festival with "Non vedevo l'ora...", a musical show of great intensity, between nostalgia, passion and irony, composed of songs written and performed by Petrelli himself.
