
International Jazz Day

International Jazz Day is celebrated every 30 April. It was established in 2011 by Unesco to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role in unifying peoples around the world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation considers jazz music to be a universal language of peace, a moving and unifying culture of emotions, as well as a vector for the development of intercultural exchange and tolerance. For the occasion, Lecce too celebrates the important event with a rich musical programme. Appointment in the auditorium of the 'Tito Schipa' conservatory with a concert by teachers and students of the jazz schools, for an evening of rhythm and improvisation. But what is jazz? "If you have to ask, you'll never know," said Louis Armstrong. Because jazz is freedom of interpretation, flair and imagination, it is emotion and lightness, harmony, rhythm and meaning, it is expressive force, magic, creativity and refined art. Try it to believe it.
