In its itinerant route, the Salento Organ Festival, organised by the J. S. Bach Institute of Musical Culture in Tricase, starts from Lecce this year. Of the festival conceived and directed by Francesco Scarcella, the cathedral represents the first stage of the tenth edition, created to rediscover ancient music in Italy.  The appointment in the cathedral is the kick-off of a 39-concert itinerary, 15 of which are scheduled in the city of Lecce, enriched by the presence of many international musical excellences, in the service of promoting and enhancing the organ heritage preserved in so many churches in the Salento region. There are two organs in Lecce Cathedral. The major one, built in 1913 by Pacifico Inzoli, has electric transmission and 42 registers for a total of 3205 pipes. The other is a Saverio Anselmi Tamburini opus 32 from 1989, with fully mechanical transmission and 7 registers. 'Prayers' is the title of the concert dedicated to the composer Giuseppe Gigante, in collaboration with the 'Tito Schipa' Conservatory of Lecce.
