Barocco Festival/ Sulla strada da Napoli a Vienna (On the road from Naples to Vienna)

Naples and Vienna, two flourishing capitals in the 18th century, had continuous literary and pictorial, as well as theatrical and musical, relations and exchanges. This intense and constant relationship reached its peak during the reign of Maria Carolina, Queen of Naples and daughter of Maria Theresa. During the first decades of that century, the decline of Spanish power in favour of the freer and more progressive Austrian power was followed by that of the autonomous kingdom under the enlightened leadership of Charles III of Bourbon. Thus came a radical change that made Naples one of the most important cultural centres on the European continent. A fervour that invested not only the politics and economy of the time but also art, in which new content linked to the rich 17th century dialect literature was recovered, capable of generating a salutary change in the field of music as well. "On the Road from Naples to Vienna" by the Roman trio "Séikilos", a concert included in the programme of the Leonardo Leo Barocco Festival, retraces that fruitful change in music with a programme featuring the baroque clarinet, which was brought to the stages of Europe by the industrious Neapolitan workshops, and which Vivaldi and Telemann knew well and used in various works.
Tickets: 3 euros (available at the concert venue).
