Apulian Choir Festival

Three hundred choristers from all over Apulia, 12 events, 10 choirs, 9 locations. These are the numbers of the 2022 edition of the Apulian Choir Festival, which invades the city from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. From the cathedral of Maria Santissima Assunta to the church of San Matteo, from the church of Santa Chiara to that of Santa Teresa, and then the church of San Francesco della Scarpa, the basilica of the Rosario, Piazzetta Giosuè Carducci, Porta Rudiae and Piazza Duomo, from the sacred to the profane, from the liturgical repertoire to the popular repertoire, passing through pop and light music, the festival, which enjoys the artistic direction of maestro Luciano Fiore and is organised by Chorus Inside Puglia and Federcori, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the patronage of the Province of Lecce, the Municipality of Lecce, and the Archdiocese of Lecce, animates the city, making it vibrate with basses, tenors, baritones, sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, and contraltos.

The programme kicks off at 9.30 a.m. in the basilica of the Rosary and continues: at 10.30 a.m. in San Francesco della Scarpa; in the cathedral at 11 a.m. (and 7 p.m.); at 12 noon in the basilica of the Rosary; at 6 p.m. in the churches of Santa Chiara and Santa Teresa. There are also flash mobs in different parts of the city: at 4pm in Piazza Duomo; at 4.15pm at Porta Rudiae; at 4.45pm on the steps of the church of San Matteo; at 5pm in Piazzetta Giosuè Carducci; at 5.20pm in Piazza Duomo. The festival closes at 8 pm in the cathedral.
