TEATINI CINEMA/ West Side Story

Love, division, revenge and death. The timeless story of Romeo and Juliet never ceases to inspire contemporary cinema. Including that of Steven Spielberg, who does not give up "his" version of "West Side Story," the 1957 musical with music by Leonard Bernstein, libretto by Arthur Laurents and words by Stephen Sondheim. The film "Chosen by the Audience" for Teatini Cinema by Lecce's DB Dessai is set in today's New York pervaded by racism and prejudice. In the streets of the metropolis two gangs, the Puerto Rican Shark's and the white American Jets, clash relentlessly to win control of the territory. It will be, however, the love between Maria and Tony, members of the two opposing factions, that will ensure that the hatred comes to an end... but at great cost.
