TEATINI CINEMA/ United States v. Billie Holiday

TEATINI CINEMA/ United States v. Billie Holiday

It was 1937 when the first bill calling for the abolition of lynching of African Americans was introduced in the U.S. Senate. And it was rejected. At that time Billie Holiday became famous for "Strange Fruit," which centered on the issue of lynching, and from that point on the U.S. state turned on her, deeming her a threat and trying to prevent her from singing that song. Entitled "The United States vs. Billie Holiday," Oscar winner in 2012, the film by director Lee Daniels is being screened for "Teatini Cinema," a festival curated by Lecce's DB d'Essai, in collaboration with the city council. The story of the American singer is the film adaptation of Johann Hari's book Chassing the Scream.

Beginning at 9 p.m., with box office opening and entrance into the cloister from 8 p.m.
