TEATINI CINEMA/ The Portrait of the Duke

TEATINI CINEMA/ The Portrait of the Duke

For "Teatini Cinema," the summer arena of DB d'Essai in collaboration with the City of Lecce, Thursdays are screening "Audience's Choice," films selected by viewers through an online poll. Very dear to the audience is the story told in "The Duke's Portrait," starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren, directed by Roger Michell in 2022. Kempton Bunton, an elderly taxi driver, decides in 1961 to steal Francisco Goya's "Portrait of the Duke of Wellington" from the National Gallery in London. The man sends a very bizarre ransom demand, promising to return the painting provided the government makes a commitment to support the elderly more. A theme that for obvious reasons is very close to Kempton's heart. Only 50 years later does the truth emerge. Bunton has devised a plan chock-full of lies. The only certainty is that he is a good man, intent on changing the world and saving his marriage. How and why Kempton used the "Portrait of the Duke of Wellington" to achieve his goal is a wonderful and fascinating story.

Beginning at 9 p.m., with box office opening and entrance to the cloister from 8 p.m.

Tickets: 7 euros; 6.50 including presale for those purchasing online at https://dbdessai.18tickets.it/
