Teatini Cinema/ Il Sol dell'Avvenire

It is "Il Sol dell'Avvenire" (The Future Sun) that closes "Teatini Cinema", a film festival under the stars that has welcomed films and spectators among the arches of the cloister thanks to the DB d'Essai selection and the collaboration of the Municipality. Nanni Moretti's latest work has been defined by many as a sort of homecoming, to those themes of idiosyncrasies, intolerances and alienation sharpened by politics and made incomprehensible by a society that continues to change. The story is that of Giovanni, a director who has to shoot a film set in 1956 and a district secretary of the PCI in crisis over Russia's invasion of Hungary. The existential threads of the protagonist are interwoven with those of Giovanni, who no longer seems to have a past in which to take refuge from a present he does not understand and with which it seems impossible to come to terms.
