Bandits at Orgosolo/ Vittorio De Seta

Bandits at Orgosolo/ Vittorio De Seta

The screen in the auditorium of the Castromediano museum is lit up with the film 'Banditi a Orgosolo', by Sicilian director Vittorio De Seta. The feature film, shot entirely in Barbagia in 1961, stars non-professional actors, authentic Sardinian shepherds. This overview of the reality of Barbagia between the 1950s and 1960s occupies a central position in the history of world cinema for the quality of its photography and narration. Awarded Best First Feature at the 22nd Venice Film Festival, it was judged "an undisputed masterpiece" by a master of cinematography such as Martin Scorsese. As an added value, the film has entered by right into the collective imagination linked to Sardinia, as a founding myth of the island's history and culture. The exhibition 'Abissi di silenzio' (Abysses of silence), curated by Antioco Floris and Antonello Zanda, can be visited free of charge until 25 June at the Convitto Palmieri. Free entrance.
