The Souls of Textiles

It tells the story of some far-sighted women from Salento who knew how to weave the threads of textile art and those of female emancipation and solidarity. Le anime del tessile" ("The souls of textiles") is the title of the exhibition that tells the story of the Le Costantine Foundation, curated by Elena Laurenzi and Brizia Minerva and set up in the spaces of the Convitto Palmieri in Lecce.
A narrative constructed through documents, photographs, paintings, certificates, prizes received in some Universal Expositions of the time, samples from the workshop of the Scuola di Casamassella created by Carolina and Etta De Viti De Marco and Consortium of the Italian women's industries, technical drawings and embroidery and weaving works.
To act as a historical "frame" within which to frame the context from which the different philanthropic projects of Le Costantine came to life, also on display the shots of Giuseppe Palumbo (from the Castromediano Museum), an academic, journalist and sophisticated intellectual of the last century who, riding his bicycle and carrying his camera, documented the Salento that was already beginning to fade.
The exhibition also includes the workshop's precious artefacts, some garments made by Cristian Dior for the Cruise fashion show 2021, held in Lecce on 22 July 2020; a didactic area where the workshop's weavers will show how to work the Historical Loom, and one dedicated for the screening of the documentary "Cantando e amando" directed by Edoardo Winspeare.
