After Caravaggio, painting was never the same again. His style, his way of using light was revolutionary, his choice of subjects and iconographic approach were clamorous and difficult to understand. "Caravaggio's Legacy in Europe, 17th century paintings from private collections" is the exhibition curated by Benarte and hosted in the small former church of San Sebastiano, just behind the Cathedral, now home to the Fondazione Palmieri. The exhibition is a selected collection of paintings from private collections, works by artists who, consciously or unconsciously, were influenced by Merisi's style, so profoundly that they have come to be known as "the Caravaggesques".
