Sand Creatures

Sand Creatures

Inspired by Ben Jelloun's novel, the exhibition 'Creatures of Sand', hosted in the spaces of the former Sant'Anna Conservatory, is the final act of the articulated, eponymous project promoted by the Agency for Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage with Positivo Diretto, the Lecce Biblio-museum Pole, the Municipality of Lecce and N.O.I. Salento and curated by Andrea Laudisa and Alice Caracciolo. Last May, four young artists, Tunisian Rafika Ferchichi, Moroccan Salma Hilmi and Iranian Khathereh Safajoo and Mehrnoosh Roshanaei, were hosted in an artist residency at the Castromediano Museum to reflect on the themes of gender equality, violated rights and the empowerment of women in the Mediterranean, 12 years after the Arab Spring. The tools for reflection were narrative, painting, design, photography, film and visual arts. The project concludes with the restitution exhibition, a journey composed of four works, immersive and of emotional impact, with objects, video and sound installations, and suggestions of multiple evocations.
Vernissage on Friday 19 January at 6.30 pm.
The exhibition can be visited every day from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 4.30 pm to 8 pm.
