It is the expression of a lifelong passion, the collection of Maurizio Aiuto, a veritable "mal d'arte", that is “art sickness” that, shortly before his death, the eccentric and visionary from Salento, perhaps, thought to cure by sharing his artistic heritage. The donation arrives at the Castromediano Museum with 74 works, including sculptures, paintings and drawings. A composite and heterogeneous collection that also expresses the thirst for knowledge and the strong bond with Salento, the Terra d'Otranto and its artists. From Gioacchino Toma to Giuseppe Casciaro, from Eugenio Maccagnani to Antonio Bortone and then Michele Massari, Antonio Massari, Geremia Re, Francesco Barbieri, Temistocle De Vitis, Edoardo De Candia, artists and works that, between the nineteenth and twentieth century, have lived and represented an extraordinary phase of Salento's artistic culture, in close connection with a national and European cultural temperament.
