LUPIAE/Luisa Elia

LUPIAE/Luisa Elia

Every day except Monday 10am-9pm

Luisa Elia comes back home, to her land of origin, to the malleable matter, to the very origins of her city "Lupiae". The exhibition of the sculptress from Lecce, who has been in Milan for several years now, is set up in the rooms on the first floor of the Must and is curated by Giorgio Verzotti who explains “The artist took the strength of these works from her land, conceived when she was in Milan and rediscovered in her countryside, as it can be seen from the practices and materials used. Rubber is used because of its malleability, reminiscent of the manual practices of daily life, such as kneading bread". Sculptures on the ground, hanging on the walls, suspended in the void, affirm and substantiate Luisa Elia's search for an ancient, atavistic matrix, also expressed through the use of rubber, salt, earth, the blue of the sky and the sea. Each element, each material is a bearer of meaning, has connotations and "messages to be delivered" born in the period of lockdown imposed by the pandemic, when the artist worked first in her studio in Milan and then at home in Lecce, where she returned to tie up the threads of her own identity and creative background.
