Bosco di Lecce

Bosco di Lecce

"Wars are everywhere. Art can create a connection between me and myself, which will perhaps give birth to a tree just like a better future”. With these words of hope and peace during the dramatic days of the conflict in the Middle East, Israeli artist Yuval Avital describes “Bosco di Lecce” (The wood of Lecce), a choral work currently on display at the Must museum. While the work took shape in the church of San Giovanni, the artist “hosted” anybody. And anyone has entered the variegated flora of the “Forest of Diversity”, where the “trees” were associations, students, artisans, and citizens, incorporated in the forest as a symbol and result of the relationship with the natural and socio-cultural environment, and which responds to the need to bridge the profound distances between them. Thus, colours and fabric, papier-mâché and iron wire, iconographic works and sculptures, intertwining branches and leaves as sentimental wefts come together in one great breath, a creative path that Avital travels, through nature, in search of the connection with his, and our, deepest self.

The exhibition, curated by Lorenzo Madaro and coordinated by Federica Tornese, is promoted by the Municipality of Lecce, conceived in collaboration with the Biscozzi Rimbaud foundation, and supported by the Apulia Region, Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, and the Polo biblio-museale of Lecce. It can be visited from Tuesday to Thursday from 9 am to 7 pm and from Friday to Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm.

Tickets: 5 euro, reduced 3,50.

Info: 0832/241067.
